Cheese Fingers ( Soups and Salads Recipe )

These crunchy short-eats can be served with a hot soup as a nice appetizer combination. Toasted bread is smeared with a delicious cheese-butter-mustard paste and baked until the cheese melts. Fresh pepper and salt spices up the cheese mixture, while the chilli flakes lend a classy finish. Rest assured, your family will enjoy the treat!

2 tbsp butter
8 tbsp grated processed cheese
1/2 tsp mustard (rai / sarson) paste , readily available in the market
salt and freshly ground black pepper (kalimirch) powder to taste
6 bread slices
1 tsp chilli powder (optional)

  1. Combine the butter, 2 tbsp of cheese, mustard paste, salt and pepper in a bowl and mix well until very soft.
  2. Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and keep aside.
  3. Toast the bread slices in a pop-up toaster till they are crisp and brown in colour from both the sides.
  4. Place each toasted bread slice on a dry, surface and spread a portion of the mixture evenly over it.
  5. Sprinkle ½ tbsp of cheese and a little chilli powder on each bread slice and bake in a pre-heated oven at 200°c (400°f) for 10 to 15 minutes or till the cheese melts.
  6. Cool slightly, cut each toast into 3 equal pieces vertically and serve immediately.
