Chana Dal with Cucumber

A simple yet hearty dal with the goodness of fresh crunchy cucumber. A quick-to-dole-out recipe, so if you are late from work and craving for some piping hot dal, try this one out. It won’t disappoint!

Method
  1. Wash and soak the chana dal in water for at least an hour. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Add 2 cups water to the soaked dal and pressure cook for 10 to 15 minutes, till the dal is done.
  3. Whisk well to mash the dal. Keep aside.
  4. Heat the oil in a large pan, add the cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.
  5. Add the cooked dal, ginger-green chilli paste, turmeric powder and chilli powder and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Add the cucumber and salt and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes till the cucumber is tender, but still a little crisp. Add some water, if required to adjust the consistency.
  7. Garnish with the chopped coriander and serve hot with rice or rotis.
