The yummy butter taste in these lovely Butter cookies make these evening cookies a must try recipe. Quite easy to bake, these butter cookies can be enjoyed topped with jam or maple syrup.

Ingredients


1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
3 1/3 cups plain flour (maida)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 tsp vanilla essence
Coloured sugar crystals, icing, candies, etc. for decoration

Method

  1. Beat butter until soft and creamy for around two minutes with an electric hand mixer (on the medium speed setting).
  2. Add sugar gradually, beating well.
  3. Add the egg and beat in.
  4. Combine flour, soda, salt, and cream of tartar; add to butter mixture with the hand mixer, beating at low speed just until blended. stir in vanilla.
  5. Shape dough into a ball. roll dough to a 1/4-inch thickness on wax paper.
  6. Cut into desired shapes and place two inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Sprinkle dough with sugar crystals before baking.
  8. Bake at 350°c for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  9. Cool on wire racks and decorate if desired.
