Brown Onion Soup with Pepper Cheese Balls

An exciting variation of the famous French onion soup.

3 onions, sliced
2 tsp cornflour
3 tbsp butter
salt and black pepper (kalimirch) powder to taste

For the cheese balls
6 tbsp grated cheese
2 crushed peppercorns
2 tsp chopped parsley

For the garnish
1 tbsp chopped parsley

  1. Heat the butter and fry the onions on a low flame for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown in colour.
  2. Add 5 cups of water, salt and pepper and bring to the boil.
  3. Mix the cornflour in 1 cup of water and add to the soup. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Knead the ingredients for the cheese balls very well and shape into small balls.
  5. Add the cheese balls to the soup just before serving.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with the chopped parsley.
