You would definitely have used green peas as part of many a recipe, but now try this bengali-style dal that is made exclusively with green peas and just a dash of common spices to pep it up.

Ingredients


To Be Blended Together Into A Paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tbsp grated ginger (adrak)
1/2 tsp freshly ground black peppercorns (kalimirch)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder
a pinch garam masala
salt and sugar to taste
1 tbsp water

Other Ingredients
2 cups green peas
1 tbsp ghee
1 bayleaf (tejpatta)
1/4 cup milk
salt to taste

For The Garnish
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

Method
  1. Put the green peas in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 3 minutes, stirring once in between after 1½ minutes. Keep aside.
  2. Put the ghee in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the cooked green peas and bayleaf, mix well and microwave on high for 2 minutes, stirring once in between after 1 minute.
  4. Add the prepared paste and 1½ cups of water, mix well and microwave on high for 2 minutes, stirring once in between after 1 minute.
  5. Add the milk and salt and blend well using a hand blender.
  6. Serve immediately garnished with coriander.
