Apple crumble, a fibre-rich, heavenly dessert that is brimful of the goodness of oats and wheat bran, this helps lower cholesterol and also satisfy your sweet cravings. The stewed apples baked with muesli can be made in a jiffy and will be truly relished by your family. I have also added some nuts to the muesli to enhance the vitamin e and essential fatty acid content that are necessary for a healthier you.

For The Stewed Apples
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp lemon juice
2 sticks cinnamon (dalchini)
2 cups sliced apples , with the skin

For The Muesli
2 tbsp quick cooking rolled oats
1 tbsp wheat bran
1 tbsp chopped almonds (badam)
1 tbsp chopped walnuts
1 tbsp raisins (kismis)
1/4 tsp cinnamon (dalchini) powder
1/8 tsp vanilla essence

Other Ingredients
1/2 tsp oil for greasing

For the stewed apples

  1. Combine the sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon and ½ cup of water in a non-stick pan, mix well and bring to boil.
  2. Add the apples and simmer till the apples are soft. Keep aside.

For the muesli

  1. Combine the oats, wheat bran, almonds and walnuts and lightly roast them on a non-stick pan on a slow flame for 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Cool completely, add the raisins, cinnamon powder and vanilla essence and mix well.
  3. Lightly crush the mixture and keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Place the stewed apple slices evenly in a greased baking tray, sprinkle the crushed muesli over it.
  2. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 5 minutes or till the muesli turns golden brown in colour. Serve immediately.
